A local artist will lead 3 guided painting sessions providing the ideal opportunity to learn to paint or improve artistic skills. Additionally, trips to picturesque English Harbour and the capital St John's could provide more artistic inspiration. Alternatively, local landmarks such as Betty's Hope – a former sugar plantation with a fully restored sugar mill – might be the perfect subject for an artwork.
When not involved in guided painting sessions, participants are free to create their own artworks perhaps using the tropical gardens, the stunning sea views or the historic Great House itself as inspiration.
The Great House Antigua will provide basic art materials, but holidaymakers are welcome to bring their own favourite paints or brushes.
With just 8 bedrooms, the Great House Antigua is an intimate resort set in 26 acres of peaceful grounds where the loudest sounds are bird song or the breeze. There are plenty of hiking trails around the resort for explorers to enjoy and it's just a short walk down to the sea for a spot of kayaking. Guests can also take part in daily fitness classes or morning hikes to local landmarks such as Betty's Hope.
There is also a swimming pool for refreshing swims and the onsite spa provides a full range of massages, facials and other treatments. Healthy eating is assured with many of the fresh ingredients coming from the gardens while other items such as fish are sourced daily from local markets.
Tropic Breeze (www.tropicbreeze.co.uk, tel: 01752 880880) offers 7 nights at The Great House Antigua from £1980 per person, based on 2 adults sharing on a half board basis, including return flights with Virgin Atlantic from London Heathrow and return transfers. Priced for travel 16-23 November.
The Painting Retreat activities cost an additional US$104 per suite, per night.
