This secluded island escape, set in the Tuscan archipelago, sleeps 20, with incredible Mediterranean views and an authentic local cultural scene, and can be booked as part of a retreat or for private group hire.

Wildfitness is a UK-based retreat experience that runs courses in Somerset, Menorca and Capraia, based on three core principles: respecting the body's natural rhythms, healthy eating and a holistic approach to movement, using the local environment as a natural gym. The team runs several retreats over the year, staying at the Fort and taking full advantage of the island's unique natural character. In 2025, two seven-day courses will take place 17th-24th May and 24th-31st May, and can be combined for a full 14 day transformative course. The retreats include three-four movement sessions per day – such as lifting, yoga, hiking and breath work – and organic meals prepared by the fort chefs, along with educational workshops, posture and movement assessment and complimentary massage.

Single occupancy prices start from £2,975; double occupancy starts from £2,674. For more information please visit https://wildfitness.com/retreats/italy/.

Forte San Giorgio available for exclusive hire

For guests wanting a more private experience, Forte San Giorgio will once again be available for private group hire throughout the summer period from June to September. Accommodating 20 guests across 11 bedrooms, and having reopened in 2021 following extensive renovation and restoration, the fort is now a characterful island retreat, with a variety of drawing rooms, terraces for sunbathing and dining, two infinity pools, a games room for billiards and table tennis and a contemporary kitchen for entertaining.

The 'wild island' of Capraia is still relatively undiscovered, and makes for a perfect retreat from more crowded destinations in the summer months. While only around 50 people stay on the island in the winter season, summer months see the resident population grow to around 300 and a handful of small bars, restaurants, and seaside shacks, pop up in Porto and Paese, for guests to wander in and out of as their fancy takes, for a quick glass of wine or aperitivo. For those used to the crowded streets of Europe, the sleepy community of Capraia is a welcome respite, with a community served by just four policemen, two grocery stores, one school, and four fishermen.

Capraia was borne out of a volcano rising from the seabed, to which it owes its rocky and rugged landscape. The island still plays host to two volcanos, the eruptions of which have left it with a kaleidoscope of strikingly coloured rock foundations, which can be viewed on foot or by air. The island is centrally located in the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, which has become a much-praised conservation area, making it the ideal destination for nature enthusiasts, and meaning it is well protected both on land and sea, leading to incredible marine life in the surrounding ocean and unmatched landscapes and viewpoints from land, sea, and air.

A singularly individual property, Forte San Giorgio is the perfect destination for a group escape away from the crowds to reconnect with nature and community.

Prices are available on request. For booking enquiries visit www.fsgcapraia.com or follow @fsgcapraia on Instagram.
